Havana, July 18 (ACN) -- Cuban star sprinter Omara Durand completed her golden triplet today at the World Parathletics Championships, held in Paris, France, where she won the final of the 200 meters (m), category T12 (profoundly visually impaired).

Durand, universal record holder in the 100, 200 and 400 m, and winner of eight gold medals in Paralympic Games, together with her guide Yuniol Kindelán, triumphed in the double hectometer with a time of 23.07 seconds (s), her best mark this season.

With this record, she was only four hundredths of a second away from the record for the competition and five hundredths of a second away from the world record, both of which she holds.

This performance allowed the queen of speed to win her third gold medal in this event, increasing to 14 the number of titles she has won in these venues.

Behind Cuba's extra-class paratriathlete, Germany's Katrin Mueller-Rottgardt (25.22 seconds) and Venezuela's Alejandra Perez (25.42 seconds), won the silver and bronze medals, respectively, according to the event's official website.

With this result, the Cuban delegation added its fourth crown in the World Para-athletics Championship, which also includes a bronze medal.

On Saturday, at the Charléty Stadium, Durand won the 100m final with a time of 11.62 seconds, his fastest time of the year.

Previously, last Thursday, he won gold in the 400 m by stopping the clocks in 52.82 s, his fastest time in 2023.

In other important performances by Cubans, Robiel Yankiel Sol Cervantes won the first gold medal of the Caribbean nation, with a record for the event of 7.63m.

Sol Cervantes fulfilled the predictions that gave him as the maximum aspirant to the scepter in the long jump of the T47 category (upper limb affected), and demonstrated once again his excellent performance in 2023.

In addition, on Saturday, Ulicer Aguilera won the bronze medal in the javelin throw, category F13, with 59.79m.

With these performances, Omara, Robiel and Ulicer guaranteed the ticket to the Paralympic Games to be hosted by the same city of Paris in 2024.
