Havana, April 4 (JIT) - The Cubans finished far from the top positions in the rifle three positions at 50 meters during the XIV Americas Rifle and Pistol Championship of Buenos Aires 2024, in Argentina, which has pre-Olympic character. 

Lisbeth Hernandez was the best placed of the three representatives of the island, occupying the fifth place in the final with a score of 419.5, the result of the shots in five rounds. 

The Spiritan entered the final of the event as the seventh classified, with 576 points. Her teammate, Dianelys Perez, did not advance to the title discussion after closing in 12th place in the qualifying round with 572 units.

The American Sagen Maddalena (460.5), the Brazilian Geovana Meyer (455.9) and the Canadian Shanon Westlake (443.2) were positioned on the podium, in that order. 

There was no luck for Cuba in the men's event either. Rainier Quintanilla, sixth best qualified to fight for the medals with 570 points, finished seventh with 394.7, after three rounds of shooting. 

The gold, silver and bronze medals were shared by U.S. Ivan Roe (453.7), Canada's Tye Ikeda (446.9) and Argentina's Marcelo Zoccali (436.4), in that order.

The 10-meter air pistol mixed team event also closed on Wednesday. Mexico won the title and two teams from Ecuador won the remaining medals. Cuba was a no-show. 

Cuba's Laina Perez will return this Thursday to the facilities of the so-called Tiro Federal Argentino to try to win the Olympic quota available in the 25-meter pistol.
