Havana, April 4 (JIT) -- Cuba's Laina Perez won the silver medal and Olympic ticket in the 25-meter pistol during the XIV Americas Rifle and Pistol Championship of Buenos Aires 2024, in Argentina.
Arnaldo Rodríguez, national commissioner of sport shooting, confirmed from the venue the qualification of the Yumurina to the Olympic Games of Paris 2024.
Laina will attend the French capital thanks to the fact that the holder of the event, the Ecuadorian Andrea Perez, obtained her quota days before, when she was proclaimed champion in the 10-meter air pistol in this same scenario.
The matancera had a great competition this Thursday. She advanced to the final with the fifth best score (577) and in the dispute for the scepter she dueled with the shooter from Ecuador.
Laina was ahead in the seventh round by 20-19. However, in the following three rounds she was overtaken by the Ecuadorian, who was crowned with a final score of 30-26. The bronze medal went to Brazil's Marina Alves with 24 hits.
After this happy result, Laina Perez became the 30th qualifier of the Cuban delegation to this summer's Olympic Games. She also ranks second in sport shooting, after Leuris Pupo.
In Paris, the shooter will have another opportunity to prove herself in the Olympic Games, after her debut in the Tokyo 2020 edition.
