Cuba and Argentina U12 Teams

Panama, Oct 22 (PL) Cuba conquered today its first victory in the U-12 Pan American Championship, defeating Argentina 15-0.

The disciples of mentor Vladimir Vargas scored 12 times in the opening inning to demonstrate their superiority over their rivals on the grass of the Andy Alonso Municipal Stadium.

In that endless inning alone, between the defeated Thomas Tolaba and his substitute Dante Cassis, they conceded six bases on balls, hit two players, threw four off-speed pitches that led to the advancement of runners on the bases and made an illegal move (balk).

To top it off, the Cubans, who left the sacks full, hit four singles and a double and the defense committed a couple of errors.

The production ended with two more runs in the second act and another in the fourth, the latter caused by another infield error (they committed six), to declare the game over by mercy.

With this disproportionate score, the starter for the largest Caribbean island, Rydel Pérez, only pitched one inning to stay in rotation and Frank Luis Cañizares pitched two immaculate chapters to score the victory.

Jeison Perez got two outs but struck out three batters and Alan Lopez retired the last batter to leave the Argentines without a hit for the entire game.

Humberto Alfonso (2-2 with a double), Oliver Monteagudo (2-1), and Diego Girón (3-1), all with a pair of runs to their records, stood out on offense for the winners.

The day before, the Cubans lost to the Dominican Republic with a 1-6 score, and tomorrow Wednesday at 10:30, local time, they will face Brazil and then resume the challenge against Puerto Rico, sealed by rain in the first inning when they were leading 2-0.

On Thursday they will conclude the group stage against Venezuela.
