Arley Calderón
Havana, December 5 (RHC) Cuban weightlifter Arley Calderon will compete this Saturday, September 7, in the 61 kg division of the World Weightlifting Championship to be held from Friday in the city of Manama, capital of Bahrain.
Calderon, a native of the western province of Pinar del Rio, faces his fourth World Championship experience in the eleventh place of the world ranking and is the owner of the titles of the Pan American Games of Santiago de Chile and the Central American Games of San Salvador 2023.
Calderon is in the city of Manama since Tuesday, along with the head coach of the men's national team, Camilo Reynaldo Ramirez, after three flights to the cities of Caracas, Istanbul, and the main city of Bahrain.
The coach said that the main objective in the tournament, which begins next Saturday at 8:00 PM, local time (noon Cuba), is to finish among the top five in the rebounding test, a technique where Arley presents the most outstanding results.
The Cuban representation in Bahrain is completed by young Marifélix Sarría, who makes her debut in absolute planetary competitions as number seven in the universal ranking after winning three gold medals in the division of over 87 kilograms (kg) for youths, a tournament held last September in the Spanish city of León.
The World Weightlifting Championship is the top international weightlifting competition; it has been organized since 1891 by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and has been held annually since 1946.
