Las Vegas, April 28 (RHC)-- In the U.S. state of Nevada, police have arrested seven people at a nonviolent protest against U.S. drone warfare at the gates of the Creech Air Force Base northwest of Las Vegas.

The base is home to drone operators who pilot deadly Reaper and Predator drones in missions throughout the Middle East and Afghanistan.  The protesters temporarily shut down a stretch of Highway 95 near the base, holding banners honoring the victims of U.S. drone attacks.

Ahead of the protests, Veterans for Peace launched a series of commercials in Las Vegas urging drone operators to abandon their missions.

According to Ken Ritter of the Associated Press, Police Officer Laura Metzler understood that the blockade of US Hwy 95 was clearly about the international crimes committed by Creech AFB practices. Media outlets which covered the story sadly left out the IMPORTANT detail that blockaders last week had wished to nonviolently communicate with Creech traffic, and ALLOW non-Creech traffic to pass by. The affinity group action that day enabled the distribution of fliers to Creech personnel, sensitive to the troubles of drone operators who daily face difficulties (emotional turmoil), with potential orders to kill unarmed, unwitting civilians.
