Tegucigalpa, November 27 (RHC)-- Honduras’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) reported that opposition candidate Salvador Nasralla was leading by almost five percent in the presidential elections held Sunday, with ballots counted at more than half of polling sites.

Nasralla, a former sportscaster and candidate by the Opposition Alliance against the Dictatorship, was leading with 45,17% of the vote, followed by president Juan Orlando Hernandez of the National Party with 41%, and Luis Zelaya of the Liberal Party with 13.77 percent with 57 percent of the votes counted.

The president of the electoral tribunal, David Matamoros, said that there are polling sites that have not concluded the vote counting yet.

Both candidates have declared themselves as winners. Hernandez had claimed victory early, despite the lack of official reports, while Nasralla also alleged on Sunday night that he had enough information, despite the lack of official results, to declare himself president.

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal was expected to release preliminary results around 7pm local time, but the body suspended the process for nearly seven hours.
