London, April 17 (RHC)-- According to reports, last weekend's military strikes on Syria have sparked a sharp backlash against British Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron for their participation in the attacks.  

On Saturday, the U.S., Britain and France launched airstrikes against Syria, allegedly in response to a chemical attack.  In London, members of the British Parliament have strongly denounced Prime Minister May for carrying out the airstrikes without parliamentary approval. 

The attacks have also provoked a reaction in France, where lawmakers debated the strikes in France’s National Assembly and Senate on Monday.  French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe led the discussion, saying that France's enemy is not Syria, but Daesh.  

And a number of U.S. Democratic lawmakers have also slammed the Donald Trump administration for carrying out the airstrikes without congressional approval. 

In related news, the U.S. president has rejected a new round of sanctions against Russia, only one day after U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley announced the U.S. would impose sanctions against Russian companies connected to Syria’s chemical weapons program.
