Caracas, March 3 (RHC) -– Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua will meet on Tuesday with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to discuss the current crisis in Venezuela, instigated by violent opposition sectors in a bid to overthrow the socialist government of President Nicolas Maduro.

Jaua arrived today in Geneva, where he will also attend the 25th Session of the UN Human Rights Council.  The foreign minister is meeting Monday with a delegation from Vietnam, while on Tuesday Jaua will talk to representatives of Cuba, Bolivia and the European Union.

The events in Geneva follow a regional tour by Jaua of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil, where the Venezuelan diplomat exposed a right-wing scheme to topple the constitutional government.

Meanwhile in Venezuela, violent outbreaks continued on Sunday, despite the government's call for peace and coexistence during the carnival holidays.

In Caracas, protesters marched to an upper-class district which has been shaken by more than two weeks of unrest. The rioters set up barricades, burned tires and attacked security forces with rocks.

Venezuela has witnessed violent unrest since February 12th. Authorities say the turmoil has left 18 people dead and over 250 others hurt.
