Cairo, March 31 (RHC-Agencies)-- Egypt has set May 26th and 27th for the first round of presidential elections, following the ouster of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, the Supreme Presidential Election Commission (SPEC) said in a press conference on Sunday.

The election commission said Egyptian citizens living abroad will have 4 days to cast their ballots, from May 15th to the 18th, noting that the door for presidential nomination and registration would be opened from Monday.

"Nomination will be from Monday, March 31st, until April 20th," Commission Chairman Judge Anwar al-Assi said, adding that presidential campaigns can start on May 3rd.

"The result of the first round of the elections will be announced maximum on June 5th," the chairman added.

He explained that in case of a runoff round, it will be held on June 16th and 17th nationwide and from June 6th to 9th for those living abroad. The new president will be named after the final result announced no later than June 26th.

On Wednesday former army leader Field Marshal Abdel-Fattah al- Sisi announced his intention to run for the president. He carried out Morsi's ouster last July.

Besides Sisi, leftist leader Hamdeen Sabahy was the only one who has officially announced intention to run for the president.
