Tehran, August 28 (RHC)-- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the Islamic Republic has become the target of an all-out economic and political war by its enemies, but it can and will come out on top in the end.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the start of the Government Week, Rouhani said the Iranian government was subjected to a similar campaign of pressure during the early days of the 1979 Islamic Revolution and defeated the enemy with the unity of the nation.  "Today the country is faced with different types of problems and is subjected to an economic, psychological and to some extent political war," he said on Wednesday.

"We should end this war with a victory for the Iranian nation and not only is this achievable, it is certain considering our nation's history and its record," he added.  Rouhani's remarks come as Iran is dealing with a campaign of "maximum pressure" by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The Iranian president said that his country will get past the current war with "unity, patience, resistance, and innovation."  "The more the nation and the government are united, the more resilient the Islamic Republic will be," he added.

The president also thanked all government officials and employees and their families for withstanding the enemy pressure and pushing the country forward.

He noted that the Iranian people have been the world's most powerful in forming governments and establishing the rule of law throughout the country's rich history.
