Vatican City, October 9 (RHC)-- Pope Francis welcomed indigenous leaders from Amazonia to the Vatican for a gathering of bishops known as a “Synod.”
The three-week meeting will focus on the Catholic Church’s efforts to safeguard the Amazon region.
Pope Francis said: “May God preserve us from the greed of new forms of colonialism. The fire set by interests that destroy, like the fire that recently devastated Amazonia, is not the fire of the Gospel.”
