Rio de Janeiro, April 30 (RHC) -- According to a poll published on Tuesday, Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff, remains the front-runner to win a second term in office in the October 5th election.

The poll by the MDA polling institute found that 37 percent of the people questioned would vote for the incumbent, who remains favorite ahead of the October presidential elections. However the number is down from 43.7 percent in the previous poll in February.

Two main opposition rivals are gaining ground, increasing the chances that an opposition contender can force this year's election to a runoff, revealed the survey sponsored by the National Transports Confederation that represents private transportation businesses.

Support for Senator Aecio Neves from the Brazilian Social Democracy Party jumped from 17 percent to 21.6 percent in the new poll, while approval for Eduardo Campos from the Brazilian Socialist Party rose from 9.9 percent to 11.8 percent.

The poll also showed that, in a scenario in which candidates of small political parties are included, Rousseff would garner 36.4 percent of the votes, followed by Neves with 21.2 percent and Campos with 11.1 percent.

In case of a second round, the poll indicated that Rousseff would win by a landslide against both Campos and Neves, with 39.2 percent of votes against Neves' 29.3 percent, and 41.3 percent against Campos' 24.4 percent of votes.

The poll questioned 2,002 people on April 20-25 and has a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points.
