United Nations, May 22 (RHC)-- Venezuela's Ambassador to the United Nations Samuel Moncada reiterated that the U.S. government is maintaining a "maximum pressure campaign" against the country.

Venezuela's representative to the UN said his country had informed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres about the "threat of imminent use of military force by the United States" in view of the arrival of Iranian ships carrying fuel for Venezuela.

In the message sent to Guterres, the diplomat emphasized that the imposition of unilateral coercive measures by the Donald Trump administration prevents Venezuela from acquiring the necessary inputs to refine national crude oil and convert it into gasoline.

Likewise, he explained that "U.S. officials have publicly admitted that they are exerting pressure on companies to refrain from supplying gasoline to Venezuela," actions that have been denounced with relevant evidence before the UN.

Today we alert the UN Security Council and the Secretary General, @antonioguterres, to the threat of imminent use of military force by the United States against Iranian ships with gasoline destined for Venezuela.  An act of war established under international law.

Moncada stressed that the U.S. is maintaining a "campaign of maximum pressure" against Venezuela and detailed the actions being plotted from Washington to sanction Iran, "which is a clear example of how the government of the United States of America intends both to violate international law and to exercise authority over the sovereignty of other independent states."

"Ships flying British, Dutch, French and American flags are skirting the coasts of our country, with a hostile and aggressive attitude, under the pretext of a supposed operation to fight drug trafficking, while at the same time threatening the illegal imposition of a naval blockade," denounced the Venezuelan representative to the United Nations.

Finally, Samuel Moncada urged the UN Security Council to adopt the necessary measures so that the Trump government puts an immediate and definitive end to its "warmongering and criminal policies," in order not to generate an increase in tensions.
