Caracas, December 6 (RHC)-- The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has rejected attempts to interfere in the country's legislative elections and demanded respect for the self-determination of the South American country.

In statements to the press after exercising his right to vote in the elections for the National Assembly, the Venezuelan president highlighted the failure of the hostile policy of the U.S. government, aimed at destroying the institutions of Venezuela.

"The U.S. empire wants to destroy the democratic institutions, it is a colonization project for Latin America that has failed; Venezuela is no one's colony," the dignitary affirmed.

Maduro called on the sectors of the opposition to abandon the extremist route and the interventionist agenda promoted by Washington, and to demand, as a project of national unity, the lifting of all coercive measures.

The head of state described the last legislature of the National Assembly as a disastrous period, from which a predominant faction of the extreme right promoted the imposition of the actions of economic asphyxiation and the theft of assets of the South American country abroad.
