Mexico City, February 5 (RHC)-- Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) has announced that he obtained a negative result in an antigen test performed on Thursday -- 12 days after he revealed he had tested positive for COVID-19.

"They did the antigen test today and I came out negative," the 67-year-old Mexican leader said in a video posted on his social networks.  However, AMLO noted that he will still have to remain under quarantine and observation for a few more days.

The Mexican head of state took the opportunity to thank the people who showed him signs of support during over the past several days, a period in which he remained in isolation.

In his message, he pointed out that important batches of vaccines will begin to arrive in Mexico to vaccinate the elderly population, once the medical personnel attending to the COVID-19 patients have been immunized.
