Mexico City, April 8 (RHC)-- Mexican Secretary of Health Jorge Alcocer has warned people "not to lower their guard" or to be overly confident because there is a vaccine.

Mexico has registered a decrease in the number of infections, deaths and hospitalization levels for ten weeks, according to information provided by the Minister of Health.  Secretary Alcocer insisted that citizens should not be overconfident during a press conference held on Tuesday morning at the National Palace.

Although the effect of the vaccine is very positive, the health secretary reiterated how necessary it is to take measures to avoid a new wave.  

For his part, the Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo Lopez Gatell, reported on the data of the vaccination campaign at the national level.  He highlighted that nearly half of the elderly have already been inoculated with at least one dose of the immunizer (6,896,080 people) and almost 500,000 people have completed the scheme.  On Monday, 292,855 people were vaccinated.

To date, Mexico has received 15,163,420 units of the drug and this week it expects to receive 302,600 doses after the arrival of three shipments from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

Meanwhile, the CanSino vaccine, packaged locally, will release a batch of 423,260 doses at the end of the technical tests, according to Lopez Gatell.  A total of 9,366,944 Mexicans have already received the immunogen.
