Washington, June 12 (RHC)-- In the United States, Republican Eric Cantor has announced he will step down as House majority leader following his historic primary loss in Virginia. Cantor became the first House majority leader to ever lose a primary when he fell to tea party challenger David Brat.

The day after his loss, Cantor held a news conference to announce his resignation. David Brat ran on a staunch anti-immigrant platform, but some analysts say Cantor was done in by a voter backlash against his insider politics and close Wall Street ties.
