Mexico receives sixth batch of Russian vaccine against COVID-19

Mexico City, May 18 (RHC)-- Mexico has received the sixth batch of the Russian vaccine against COVID-19, Sputnik V, on Monday.  Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, confirmed the arrival of the shipment on his Twitter account.

The load, of 500,000 doses of the Russian immunizer, brings the figure to a total of 2 million 400,000, the Russian Foreign Ministry also detailed from Twitter.  In this way, the publication specified, both countries "strengthen ties of friendship" and continue to cooperate in the fight against COVID-19.

The vaccination campaign in the country is progressing at a good pace, according to the national Health Secretariat, and the immunization of the capital's teaching staff is scheduled for this week, after the vaccination of the country's medical staff and senior citizens.

The Ministry of Health, through its most recent report on the current situation of COVID-19 in Mexico, has expressed the importance of complying with the contracts with the suppliers of vaccine doses, in order to maintain the achievements.

According to the entity, at the end of Sunday, the country registered 1,233 new COVID-19 infections for a total of 2,381,923 cases since the beginning of the pandemic in the country.  In addition, 53 new deaths due to the disease were reported, bringing the total number of deaths due to the disease to 220,433.

Currently, the capital Mexico City is the territory of the country with the most active cases of the disease, more than 3,000, according to Santa Elizabeth Ceballos, Director of Epidemiological Surveillance of the country, during a morning conference on Monday.
