Buenos Aires, May 21 (RHC)-- Argentinean President Alberto Fernandez, in a press conference, addressed the nation this Thursday to announce that the restrictive measures against the second wave of Covid-19 in the southern country are maintained.

"I ask you to be aware of the seriousness", expressed the Argentine dignitary, at the same time that, in the face of the health crisis, he asked citizens to maintain unity above any difference, to understand the need for radical sanitary measures and to maximize care against the disease.

Referring to the current vaccination campaign throughout the country, the President assured that doses are regularly received from Sputnik V, Astrazeneca and Sinopharm, thanks to the dialogues with the governments of Russia, Mexico and China, whose presidents he thanked for their cooperation.

"We will have more than 4 million doses," Fernandez announced. "As of today, seven out of every ten people over the age of 60 have received at least one dose of the vaccines," Fernandez confirmed.

In addition to the nations already supplying the southern country with immunizers, President Fernandez added that dialogue will continue with other countries for safe and effective vaccines. "With the arrival of these new doses, we are entering a new stage of vaccination", he said.

Finally, the president congratulated the efforts of the health personnel who are leading the vaccination campaign throughout the country. "While we stay at home we will make strong progress with the recovery", said Fernandez.

On Wednesday, Argentina marked a new maximum of coronavirus infections, registering more than 39,000 cases in 24 hours. According to the Ministry of Health, the country registered 39,652 positive cases of Covid-19 last day, bringing the number of infections to 3,411,160 since the beginning of the pandemic. Meanwhile, deaths caused by the coronavirus amounted to 72,265, after 494 deaths were registered during 24 hours.
