Bogota, May 27 (RHC)-- At least 236 people, including young people, women and children, were injured on Wednesday in a new day of repression by the Mobile Anti-Riot Squad (ESMAD), of the National Police, against the National Strike taking place in Colombia.

According to accounts reported by humanitarian activists and disseminated by independent media, in the sector of Usme, in the south of Bogota, police repression left a balance of 185 injured on Wednesday night.  Of them, 18 suffered bullet wounds; five seriously with stun gun wounds to the head.

The communications agency Colombia Informa indicated on its Twitter account that the offensive by elements of the ESMAD in the Chicalá neighborhood, in the vicinity of Portal Resistencia in Bogotá, has left more than 25 people injured.

The Colombian population began last April 28 a National Strike against the neoliberal policies imposed by the government of President Iván Duque, and in search of a socio-political model that contributes to stop violence and reduce social inequality in the nation.

Since that day and until May 25, 3,155 cases of police violence have been reported, 955 victims of physical violence by the security forces, 43 victims of homicides, allegedly by the Police, according to a count made by the non-governmental organization (NGO) Temblores.

Temblores denounced 1,388 arbitrary detentions against demonstrators, 595 violent interventions, 46 victims of eye injuries, 165 cases of firearm shots by the police and 22 victims of sexual violence.
