Brasilia, August 4 (RHC)-- Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has requested the Supreme Court of Justice to open a process to President Jair Bolsonaro for his comments and sayings against the current voting system, whose transparency the president has repeatedly questioned.

The plenary of the TSE unanimously approved to open an investigation against Jair Bolsonaro for the accusations without evidence made by the president, who has asserted that the electronic ballot boxes "are not reliable."  Bolsonaro's statements come 14 months before the presidential elections, in which the president is seeking reelection.

In addition, the plenary of the TSE requested the Supreme Court to investigate a "possible criminal conduct" of Bolsonaro related to investigation 4.781, already in process, which seeks to investigate "false news" and "false communications of crimes" spread through social networks.

The president of the TSE, Judge Luís Roberto Barroso, criticized the president's position and stated that threatening the elections is an "anti-democratic behavior."  Bolsonaro has pressured Congress to approve a constitutional amendment to resume paper voting, as a complement to the current system, which has been in place since 1996.

Jair Bolsonaro, who is going through his worst moment of popularity, intends to run for reelection next year, although so far polls place him behind his greatest political adversary, former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
