Lima, October 5 (RHC)-- Peru's former dictator Alberto Fujimori was transferred this Monday from Barbadillo prison to a clinic in the district of San Isidro to undergo heart surgery.

According to the ex-dictator's family doctor, Alejandro Aguinaga, Fujimori presented health problems in the early hours of the morning.  "He had to be treated in an emergency, he had a tachycardia," he told local media.

He (Fujimori) is conscious for the moment," explained Aguinaga.  "We had already come with a predetermination to evaluate his heart and he is going to undergo surgery.   For its part, Peru's Penitentiary Institute (INPE) reported that after examinations of Fujimori, it was confirmed that he must be hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

"As a result, within the framework of his private insurance coverage, Fujimori will be transferred to another local clinic, always complying with security protocols," explained the INPE.

Fujimori suffered the decompensation after the Peruvian Executive gave its approval to the Chilean Justice's request to try him in new cases.  Among the crimes are aggravated homicide, serious injuries, illicit association to commit crimes, fraudulent embezzlement, aggravated kidnapping and revelation of national secrets to the detriment of the State.
