Santiago de Chile, October 16 (RHC)-- Carabineros police forces repressed this Friday the mobilizations that took place in Santiago de Chile, in the framework of the second anniversary of the social outburst that will be celebrated October 18th.

"Immediate freedom for political prisoners" is one of the slogans raised by popular movements that demonstrated, demanding the release of those who mobilized against militarization in the country, after the protests.

In the Plaza Dignidad, the main center of concentration during the social outburst, users of social networks shared images of the carabineros who came to the place, who later used water cannons to break up the demonstration.

The teleSUR correspondent, Paola Dragnic, reported that the father of Camilo Catrillanca, a community member murdered by Carabineros, Marcelo Catrillanca, attended the demonstration to show solidarity with the families of political prisoners and victims of human rights violations.

Dragnic pointed out that, in the Lo Hermida population of the commune of Peñalolén, in Santiago, neighbors also mobilized in the framework of the commemoration of the social outbreak, rejecting the violent actions of Carabineros.

The mobilization was an opportunity to reject the decree of President Sebastián Piñera, issued on October 12, on the State of Exception and the militarization of La Araucanía, the southern area of the country, where the Mapuche people have been demanding the recovery of their ancestral lands for decades.

Likewise, the death of human rights defender Denisse Cortés, who was working as part of the Defensoría Popular and died after being hit during the police repression against a protest, last October 10, was recalled.

The 2019 social outburst in Chile left more than 30 dead, 3,400 people hospitalized, 347 injured with eye injuries, dozens of detainees, allegations of rape and torture by State agents.
