Port-au-Prince, February 16 (RHC)-- Delegations from a dozen countries and international organizations, headed by UN Assistant Secretary General Amina Mohammed, arrived Wednesday in Haiti to participate in the international conference aimed at raising funds for the reconstruction of the south of the country.

This was confirmed by Haitian Foreign Minister Jean Victor Généus, host of the meeting, and who presents an account of the devastation of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on August 14, which caused more than 2,200 deaths, 12,700 injured, and affected almost half of the population in the region, according to official data.

As a result, the authorities, together with the United Nations, will present their so-called Integral Plan for the Recovery of the Southern Peninsula, whose estimated amount for the rehabilitation is 1,978 million dollars.

According to the UN, in an information note published Saturday on its website, it said that six months after the earthquake, Haiti has overcome the immediate emergency situation and is now considering long-term recovery and reconstruction.

The entity itself estimates that most of the demand of almost 2,000 million dollars would be destined to social sectors such as housing construction (1,027 million dollars), education (401 million), food security (54.5 million) and health (31.9 million).
