Workers' Party leader assassinated in Brazil by Bolsonaro supporter

Brasilia, July 10 (RHC)-- Marcelo Arruda, a member of Brazil's Workers' Party (PT), was murdered with two shots at close range on Sunday in the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguaçu, in the western region of Parana, when he was celebrating his 50th birthday.

The assassin is a policeman named Jorge José da Rocha Guaranho, who first went to the place and after 20 minutes, returned armed and began to shoot the PT leader, while shouting slogans in favor of the current president and candidate, Jair Bolsonaro.

Arruda, who was a guard of the municipality of Foz do Iguaçu, local treasurer of the PT and had been a candidate for deputy mayor in the municipal elections of 2020, shot the attacker who also died after being admitted to the hospital.

Last Thursday, in Rio de Janeiro, a man was arrested after throwing a homemade explosive into a crowd waiting for the PT candidate for the Presidency of Brazil, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, at a campaign rally.

Due to this situation, the Lula is now wearing a bulletproof vest at public events.
