Caracas, July 28 (Xinhua-RHC) -- The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) on Saturday appointed Nicolas Maduro as head of the party after the death of its founder Hugo Chavez last year.

In his inaugural address, Maduro called for a free and constructive discussion, creative and united action among the militants along with loyalty and discipline to his government.

"This revolution was born thanks to Chavez's fueling self-criticism, the freedom of our people and this is the party of truth and criticism," said the Venezuelan president.

At another point in his speech, the Venezuelan president proposed discussions with delegates on what he considered essential for the development of socialism in the nation and for better internal work of the ruling party.

Maduro recalled the work promoted by the late president and founder of the PSUV, Hugo Chavez, who "taught the people about the need to continue the fight begun by Simon Bolívar."

The PSUV was created in early 2008, replacing the Fifth Republic Movement that led the late socialist leader to the presidency in 1999. Since then, Chavez won every election in which he participated and the party showed an unbreakable unity.
