A reconsideration of the vote was submitted, but the request is pending after the suspension of the session.​​​

Lima, December 17 (RHC)-- The Plenary of the Peruvian Congress did not approve the constitutional reform bill to bring forward the general elections to December 2023.   The parliamentary body reported that the legislation, which also proposed the shortening of the presidential and parliamentary mandate, received 49 votes in favor, 33 against and 25 abstentions. 

Being a constitutional reform, the initiative required the support of 87 legislators to be submitted to a second vote in another legislature or 66 to call for a referendum.   Subsequently, the president of the Congress, José Williams, notified that a reconsideration to the vote was submitted, but the request is pending to be voted before the suspension of the session.  In addition, Williams specified to the legislators that "it will be summoned in due time."

This decision of the Congress takes place amid mobilizations that are being carried out in several regions of the country to demand its closure, the advance of elections, a Constituent Assembly, the resignation of President Dina Boluarte and the freedom of former President Pedro Castillo.
