28th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government
Santo Domingo, March 25 (RHC)-- Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil denounced the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States against Cuba, Nicaragua, and his country, which systematically violate human rights.
When speaking at the 28th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, the diplomat said these sanctions harm everyone by preventing fair trade, in addition to hindering the development and establishment of economic relations for the prosperity of its people.
Gil mentioned the motto of the event “Together for a fair and sustainable Ibero-America” and called for stronger action to cease and eradicate the neocolonial practice of applying criminal unilateral coercive measures, including personal ones.
Gil called for reaching the necessary agreements to influence and have a fair international financial system, a system that focuses on development and not on politicization and disrespect, he said.
The foreign minister recalled his country was subjected, since March 2015, to 929 unilateral coercive measures, the kidnapping of more than seven billion dollars in European and American bank accounts and robbed the company Citgo, a subsidiary of the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela.
He denounced the Bolivarian Republic has been persecuted and despite this, it always remained dignified to mitigate and combat systematic attacks at all levels and forms, which allowed it to consolidate its own development model centered on the people, fundamentally.
The head of Venezuelan diplomacy asserted that one cannot speak of a fair and sustainable Ibero-America if the commitment to transform the model imposed by the great dominant powers, their transnationals, and their de facto powers is not assumed.
We will not have a fair and sustainable Ibero-America without respect for sovereignty and independence with a sense of integration, promoting solidarity and complementarity, he remarked.
He proposed that to achieve a fair and sustainable Ibero-America, efforts must be made to consolidate and promote true cooperation, which contributes to the strengthening and exchange of experiences in the use and development of new technologies under a social approach that strengthens capacities.
