López Obrador criticized judicial veto of electoral law

Havana, March 27 (RHC) Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador criticized the Supreme Court of Justice on Monday for vetoing a reform of electoral laws, exceeding its limit of interpreting without modifying resolutions of Congress.

Last Friday, at night and during non-working hours, magistrate Javier Laynez alone approved the definitive and total veto of the reform known as Plan B, and ordered to restore everything prior to its promulgation, without taking into account the legal defects of its decision, for which the Government will challenge it.

According to López Obrador, what Laynez actually did is to save his money, so the important thing is to know why he acted like this when they know it is a political issue, not a legal one. It is even a commercial one because they do not want the salaries of high-ranking officials of the National Electoral Institute (INE) to be reduced.

He added that it all boils down to the slogan of “The INE is not to be touched”, because the electoral law establishes ceilings in accordance with the Constitution, which states that no public official can earn more than the President of the Republic, he added.

He said that his Executive will continue with the fourth transformation of the country's social life as it is being carried out, respecting the balance of powers and not simulating as before when a minority ruled Mexico.

“Now we are living a stellar moment in public life, and we are going to continue like this, but it all comes down to the fact that these politicians want to return to their rights, and they are not going to achieve it”, he said. (Source: Prensa Latina)
