Institute of Migration of Mexico rescues 209 migrants

Havana, April 14 (RHC) - The National Institute of Migration (INM) of Mexico rescued 209 people from Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador and Honduras from the dry box of an abandoned trailer on the Villahermosa-Coatzacoalcos highway, in Nuevo Teapa , Veracruz, in the eastern part of the country.

With the support of the National Guard, this transport was located at midnight on Wednesday, in which cries for help were heard from travelers in overcrowded conditions, the INM said in a statement published this Thursday.

One of the doors was immediately opened, through which women, adult men and minors began to peek out to get air and water.

In the dry box of the trailer there were tubular structures and planks to condition a second floor to be able to transport a greater number of people.

Members of the INM's Beta Acayucan Group emergency transported a person who presented symptoms of suffocation.

The institute identified 144 adults from Guatemala, six from Honduras, six from El Salvador and five from Ecuador.

It also provided support to 23 from Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador and Honduras who were traveling in nine family units and to 25 unaccompanied minors from Guatemala. Minors will remain under the guardianship of the entity's System for Comprehensive Development for the Family. (Source: Telesur)
