Havana, April 17 (RHC) – Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) identified 86 migrants from India, Guatemala and El Salvador, who had been handed over by the Yucatan Public Security Secretariat.

The migrants were detained on the Mérida-Valladolid federal highway, in the town of Holactún, municipality of Seyé, as they were walking along it, but it was not reported what direction they were taking or if any transport had left them there. They are 60 from India, including three women and four minors; 24 from Guatemala; and two from El Salvador.

Minors (two of them unaccompanied) and adults who are in family groups will be under the guardianship of the Office of the Attorney for the Defense of Minors and the Family, as well as the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family of the entity.

In the case of women and men of legal age who traveled alone, the INM initiated the corresponding administrative procedure to determine their immigration status in Mexican territory.

Personnel from the National Guard, the State Investigation Police, representatives of human rights instances and the National Institute of Migration, participated in the detention, while the Mexican Red Cross provided care and medical assistance. (Source: Prensa Latina)
