Argentine President Makes the official call for Elections

Buenos Aires, Apr 28 (RHC) The Argentine President, Alberto Fernández, made official the call for primary, open, simultaneous, and mandatory elections to be held on August 13 and the general elections on October 22 of this year.

Through Decree 237/2023, published in the Official Gazette, the President also confirmed that a possible second round of the elections would take place on November 19.

He also stated that the Ministry of the Interior, through the National Electoral Office, will adopt the necessary measures for the organization and holding of these events.

In this opportunity, Argentineans will have to elect the President and Vice-President of this country, deputies and senators, and the 19 parliamentarians of the Common Market of the South and their 19 substitutes.

According to the process of confirmation of the National Congress, 130 of the 257 members of the Chamber of Deputies for the period 2023-2027 and 24 of the 72 members (one-third) of the Senate for the next six years must be renewed.

In another decree, 238/2023, Fernandez ordered the creation of the General Electoral Command, which will depend on the Executive Power and will guarantee security during the celebration of the scheduled appointments, besides watching over the premises where the polling stations will operate and the venues and infrastructures destined to the data entry and processing.

This entity will be made up of personnel appointed by the Ministry of Defense (Army, Navy, and Air Force), the Ministry of Security (Gendarmerie, Naval Prefecture, Airport, and Federal Police), and officers from each province.

Their mobilization will begin five days before the elections and will culminate after the final count in each district. (Source: Prensa Latina)
