Havana, June 4 (RHC)-- The U.S. community organization LELO (Legacy of Equality, Leadership, and Organization) today awarded activist Carlos Lazo, coordinator of the Bridges of Love solidarity movement, for his humanitarian work.

The annual award is given by the Seattle-based group to grassroots activists for their leadership and work to create a more humane and just world, the Prensa Latina news agency reported in a Washington dispatch.

In thanking for the distinction, the Cuban professor resident in that city told Prensa Latina that he does not believe he deserves such an honor, because duty is done simply and naturally.

A long time ago -he said- it has been clear to me that "all the glory of the world fits in a kernel of corn".

As for awards, the greatest that life has given me has been the opportunity to fight every day for the Cuban family, he added.

The medal I treasure most tenderly is the love of my family and the affection of my people, said the activist, insisting "more than for me, this award today is for all of you, puenteros and puenteras, Cubans, diverse people from here and there".

LELO has a half-century history of fighting for social justice and the rights of workers, minorities and immigrants in the United States and around the world.

The award includes trophy and a cash sum that "I will use to bring medical supplies to pediatric hospitals in Cuba, as well as to continue developing and building #PuentesDeAmor," Lazo said.

"You know how I'm going to buy syringes...ouch mom!" exclaimed the leader of Bridges of Love, one of the most active organizations in the United States in favor of lifting the blockade imposed on the Caribbean country more than six decades ago by the White House.(Source: ACN)
