Brasilia, June 5 (RHC)-- The Brazilian Supreme Court has indicted over 1,100 of the participants in the coup acts of last January 8th, when thousands of supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stormed the headquarters of the three branches of government in an attempt to force a coup against the then elected president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The Supreme Federal Court (STF) announced that this figure was reached when it concluded the virtual analysis of the prosecution's complaints against 131 other defendants, which it considered appropriate to open criminal proceedings against them.

The opening of the proceedings was approved by 8 of the 10 magistrates that make up the Court, the only ones against were Kassio Nunes Marques and André Mendonça, whose appointment was indicated by then President Bolsonaro.

This week, the Supreme Court will begin the analysis of the accusations against the seventh and last group of the 1,390 formally denounced by the Prosecutor's Office for participating in the coup attempt.  Once the process is concluded, the collection of evidence, the summoning of witnesses and the reading of the defense and accusation allegations will begin.
