Vatican City, Jun 23 (RHC) Pope Francis received Friday in the audience in the Sistine Chapel 200 artists participating in the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the Vatican Museums' Modern Art Collection, and asked them to confront ideological media colonization.

In his words to painters, sculptors, architects, writers, musicians, directors, and actors from more than 30 countries, the Supreme Pontiff affirmed that "we need the principle of harmony to dwell more in our world, and to expel uniformity."

Among those attending the meeting, promoted by the Vatican's Dicastery for Culture and Education, were British film director Ken Loach; Italian novelist Alessandro Baricco; German painter and sculptor Anselm Kiefer, as well as French architect Jean Nouvel.

From Latin America were invited, among others, the Brazilian singer-songwriter, musician, filmmaker, and poet Caetano Veloso, as well as the Cuban painter, sculptor, and engraver Alexis Leiva Machado (Kcho). "We human beings long for a new world that we will not fully see with our own eyes, but we desire it, we seek it, we dream it" and "artists, then, can dream new versions of the world. And this is important: new versions of the world. The ability to introduce novelties in history," Francis said. (Source: PL)
