Tegucigalpa, September 20 (RHC)-- The Honduran Black Fraternal Organization, OFRANEH, denounced through a statement that, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, at least four men entered the residence of the general coordinator Miriam Miranda, in the community of Vallecito, Colón, to make an attempt on her life.

They also indicated that members of the social leader's protection team were able to identify that the assailants, who were carrying assault rifles, did not belong to the Garifuna people  "The security forces demanded that the criminals identify themselves, but received no response," they said.

Meanwhile, they denounced that "this attack is part of a Plan of Genocide and Extermination against the Garifuna people that has been executed through multiple aggressions, ranging from threats, constant murders to forced disappearances."

In addition, they indicated that events such as these continue to increase the high levels of impunity and racism they face as a people.

Finally, the fraternal organization, founded in 1978, demanded the Honduran State to guarantee Miranda's right to life and security, as well as to provide all the conditions for him to continue his work defending the territory, culture and life of the Garífuna people.

OFRANEH is the first grassroots organization of the indigenous peoples of Honduras and aims to achieve survival as a distinct culture.
