Argentine Candidates Participate in Mandatory Presidential Debate

Havana, Oct 1, (RHC) Candidates of the five political forces that will compete in Argentina's general elections will participate today in the first mandatory presidential debate, to be held in the province of Santiago del Estero.

The exchange between Sergio Massa (Unión por la Patria, UP), Javier Milei (La Libertad Avanza, LLA), Patricia Bullrich (Juntos por el Cambio, JXC), Juan Schiaretti (Hacemos por Nuestro País, HNP) and Myriam Bregman (Frente de Izquierda y de Trabajadores Unidad) will begin at 21:00, local time.

The meeting will take place at the Provincial Forum Convention Center, will be hosted by the National University of that northern territory of the country and will be broadcasted by Public Television.

Among the topics to be discussed are the economy, education and human rights and democratic coexistence, the latter elected by popular participation.

According to what has been established, the debate will last approximately 2:20 hours, there will be breaks between thematic axes and each candidate to the Government will make a one-minute presentation, which will be followed by a block of cross questions.

The second meeting will take place next Sunday at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires, entity that would also host a third one on November 12 if a winner could not be defined in the elections of the 22nd of this month and it would be necessary to go to a second round.

According to the final count, in the August 13 primary elections LLA obtained 29.86 percent of the votes, JxC 28 percent and UP 27.28 percent.

For its part, HNP registered 3.71 and the Front 2.61.

A total of 1,356,480 blank ballots and 309,807 invalid ballots were registered.

The turnout was 69.62 percent of a total of 34 million 491 thousand 607 people, which means that 10.5 million Argentines did not vote and could define the race for the Presidency (Source: Prensa Latina).
