Dubai, December 2 (RHC)-- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says the humanitarian situation in the besieged Gaza Strip has reached a breaking point due to Israel’s relentless bombardment.

“Everything in Gaza is at the breaking point,” ICRC Director General Robert Mardini said on Saturday as he was attending the COP28 global climate summit in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.  Mardini’s comments came a day after Israel resumed its attacks on Gaza after a seven-day ceasefire with the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas ended.

He said Israel had resumed the devastating attacks on civilian infrastructure in Gaza, adding to the more than 15,200 people already killed in the onslaught.  “It's a new layer of destruction coming on top of massive, unparalleled destruction of critical infrastructure, of civilian houses and neighborhoods,” he told Reuters.

The ICRC chief said people in Gaza were “living in constant fear of violent death” while coping with shortages of food and water caused by the attacks and the regime’s blockade of Gaza.

Mardini said hospitals in Gaza were working with limited resources. He said Gaza was in “shambles and rubble.”

Gaza’s health authorities said earlier on Saturday that nearly 200 people had been killed since the resumption of Israeli attacks early Friday.

Over 100 more people were feared dead after Israeli missiles targeted residential buildings in a large refugee camp in northern Gaza later on Saturday.
