La Paz, October 6 (PL-RHC) -- Bolivian President Evo Morales has called for a turnout by the people in next Sunday's general election, regardless of the party they may support, to form the government for 2015-2020.
"The vote is secret, so let us express our democratic vocation then we can happily say on Monday that 97 or 98 percent of the people cast their vote. This is my wish: democracy and people's participation," said Morales, a candidate for re-election for the Movement towards Socialism (MAS) party.
In a television interview broadcast Sunday, he said a high turnout would lend legitimacy and give more quality to the polls, in which five candidates are vying for the presidency of the country.
The presidency is also being contested by opposition candidates Samuel Doria (Unidad Democratica), Jorge Quiroga (Christian Democratic Party), Juan del Granado (Movimiento sin Miedo) and Fernando Vargas (Green Party).
The latest surveys confirmed Morales' lead in voter support, with 59 percent of votes and a 40-point lead over Doria, who remains his main rival.
