Bogota, July 6 (RHC)-- In Colombia, the military group Autodefensa Conquistadoras de la Sierra, has issued a statement that warns of the intentions of extreme right groups in Venezuela to destabilize the government of President Nicolás Maduro.

According to the Autodefensa forces, these right-wing groups tried to contact them to carry out these acts against the Venezuelan state.  “We have decided to inform the public, both national and international, that our units in the Department of the Guajira have been contacted by extreme right groups in Venezuela, to help destabilize the government of the Republic of Venezuela,” begins the statement published on the group's X account.

The statement says that “the interlocutors have made all kinds of requests, among them, to attack the electrical infrastructure, to act against the presidental candidate Nicolás Maduro, to act in case he is re-elected, infiltrating groups of protesters and generating chaos in the streets.”

It should be pointed out that the military group rejected the offer since, in the words of the group, it does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, that our organization owes itself and aims to maintain order in the Sierra Nevada.”

They also said they were fully willing to directly contact Venezuelan authorities to give more details of the events.

The group, Autodefensa Conquistadora de la Sierra, from Colombia, are strongholds of the paramilitary Tayrona Resistance Bloc, which was led by Hernán Giraldo.  Its main area of operations is the Sierra Nevada area.

They have been accused of drug trafficking and extortion, and are accused of murdering social leaders in the region.

This force has agreed to be at the dialogue table in 2022 with the Colombian government.  They have approached the government of Gustavo Petro and have maintained their intention to restart the dialogues, after tensions between Colombian authorities and paramilitary groups.
