Caracas, August 12 (RHC)-- In a joint meeting of the National Defense Council and the Council of State, the Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, presented a detailed report on the criminal and terrorist actions that occurred after July 28th.
President Nicolás Maduro, present at the meeting, contextualized these events within a pattern of violence that he attributed to right-wing groups, relating them to phenomena such as fascism and Nazism.
In his presentation, the Attorney General said: “It is my duty as a Prosecutor and defender of human rights that people see and do not forget the victims, because they have names, surnames and mourners, good Venezuelans murdered by these terrorists who did not care about their family,” he said.
According to the Attorney General's report:
– 686 expert reports and investigative proceedings have been carried out, including 532 criminalistic and 92 forensic reports.
– 84% of the deaths occurred between July 29 and 30.
– The highest number of cases was recorded in Caracas and Aragua, with seven deaths in each region, and there were also victims in Bolívar, Yaracuy, Miranda and Zulia.
– 68% of the homicides occurred during the night.
– Between July 29 and 30, 25 deaths and 192 injuries were reported from various weapons.
Saab said that the deaths could be attributed to the so-called “Comanditos,” based on investigations and expert reports. The Attorney General denounced the instrumentalization of criminal gangs linked to terrorism and drug trafficking, claiming to have 170 videos with evidence.
“Actions were taken to pursue and exterminate Chavismo, hate crime and to seek to exterminate people for their political orientation.”
The Attorney General criticized the “double standards” of the UN Fact-Finding Mission, arguing that the Venezuelan Public Prosecutor’s Office has already conducted an exhaustive investigation.
For his part, President Nicolás Maduro emphasized that, thanks to the strengthening of institutions, peace was restored in the country in record time after the violent events. He stressed that timely, forceful and courageous justice is the best defense against hate crimes spread on social media.
The Venezuelan president characterized these acts as an attempt to intimidate society and establish a state of terror, comparing the situation with similar events that occurred in the past with the so-called "guarimbas."
