Chicago, August 19 (RHC)-- Anti-war protesters have taken to the streets of Chicago to call for an end to Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip ahead of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in the U.S. city.

The demonstration took place on Sunday as U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris prepares to be formally nominated for president at the DNC from Monday until Thursday.   The protesters chanted slogans like “End the genocide in Gaza now,” “DNC go home,” and “We support Gaza.”

They also carried Palestinian flags and banners reading, “Free Palestine” and “Killer Kamala, Gaza’s speaking!”

Tens of thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators are also expected to march on Monday and Thursday to call for an end to the U.S.’s military aid to Israel and President Joe Biden’s continued support for the regime’s Gaza onslaught.

“We believe that the billions of dollars that continue to flow to [Israel] and the flow of weapons are having an inordinate and horrific impact, but in particular on women, children and the unborn,” said Linda Loew, a protest leader.  “All of these things are tied together.”

Meanwhile, Fayaani Aboma Mijana, an organizer with the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, said: “Regardless of who the nominee is, we’re marching against the Democrats and their vicious policies that have allowed Israel to kill over 40,000 Palestinians in Gaza.”

Israel waged its brutal Gaza aggression on October 7 following a historic operation by the Palestinian Hamas resistance group against the occupying entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

So far, the Tel Aviv regime has killed at least 40,099 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 92,609 others.

The U.S. remains Israel’s most important ally and biggest supplier of arms.  It has provided Israel with weapons and intelligence support during the Gaza war and blocked UN resolutions calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in the besieged Palestinian territory.
