Copenhagen, September 4 (RHC)-- On Wednesday, Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg was arrested during a protest in Copenhagen against the genocidal war on Gaza and the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

In a statement issued upon her arrest, the Swedish climate activist said: "To stand with Palestine is to be human."

The newspaper Ekstra Bladet published a photo showing Thunberg handcuffed in front of a building at the University of Copenhagen, which had been seized by several activists from the group “Students Against Occupation.”

The police arrested six people who will be charged with trespassing.  They were protesting against the University of Copenhagen’s collaboration with Israeli universities.

“Students Against the Occupation [of Palestine] and I are in an administrative building at the University of Copenhagen,” Thunberg wrote on her Instagram account alongside a video.  She noted that she wears the keffiyeh [Palestinian scarf] on her shoulders every day!

In recent months, the founder of the climate movement Fridays for Future (FFF) has expressed her support for the Palestinian cause and her opposition to the actions of the Zionist state.

“When UN experts urge the world to act to prevent a genocide, as human beings we have a responsibility.  Demanding an end to this violence is a matter of basic humanity; we urge everyone who can to do so.  Silence is complicity.  You cannot be neutral in the face of genocide,” she wrote in an article in December.

Thunberg has worn the traditional black-and-white Palestinian scarf at several recent demonstrations, such as the one in May that marched through the streets of Malmö, Sweden, against Israel’s participation in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
