Caracas, September 9 (RHC)-- Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister for Latin America, Rander Peña, announced that the World Congress Against Fascism will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, in Caracas.  He said that the antifascism meeting would bring together more than 1,000 national and international delegates in the Venezuelan capital.

Peña said that one of the objectives of the congress will be to assess “the aggression being waged by fascism and similar actions around the world” and “not just in Venezuela,” which he considers “the most visible epicenter of the battle” against this ideology.

Additionally, a “coordinated action plan between all sectors and actors” is expected to be developed, focusing on “neutralizing the effects” of “the fascist right-wing” globally. In this regard, he pointed out that fascism, driven by “its hatred,” tries “in the worst ways to seize political power,” adding that the fight against it aims to “guarantee the survival of human life on planet Earth.”

On August 19th, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the holding of the antifascist congress and called for inviting personalities from all continents.

The antifascist congress will take place in a political climate marked by the destabilizing actions of Venezuelan far-right organizations, which have been attempting to delegitimize President Maduro’s victory in the July 28 presidential elections.

The far-right Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) baselessly claimed that its candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez, had won the elections.  Currently, this politician is in Spain after the Bolivarian government granted him safe passage to leave the country.
