Brasília, October 10 (RHC) -- A third flight, with 217 passengers, destined for the repatriation of Brazilians who were in Lebanon arrived today at the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) base in the municipality of Guarulhos, state of São Paulo.   The government's objective is to repatriate about 3,000 of the 21,000 nationals currently living in the country located on the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea, in western Asia.

According to FAB estimates, it is possible to repatriate an average of 500 people per week.

The aircraft, a KC-30, with capacity for 230 people, which made a stopover in Lisbon, the Portuguese capital, also brought on board five pets.

The flight is part of the Federal Government's operation Cedar Roots, which aims to repatriate compatriots who are in the nation hit by Israel's war aggression, which caused more than 2,000 deaths since October 2023.
As a result of this conflict, the Brazilian government sent the day before a second donation of strategic health supplies to Lebanon.

The FAB aircraft left with 491 kilos of medicines, rehydration sachets and disposable syringes, according to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The operation was coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the Ministries of Health and Defense.

In addition to this cargo, the plane transported seven tons of medicines collected in an initiative coordinated by the Lebanese Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro.

The first donation from the administration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was sent to Lebanon last Sunday, after the arrival of the first group of repatriated Brazilians and their families.

The shipment contained 20,000 syringes with needles and 4,000 individual needles.

On Wednesday, Lebanon's interim Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, stressed the continuity of Arab and international efforts to stop the Israeli onslaught.

Mikati emphasized in a message on his government's X account that Israeli intransigence and “the pursuit of what the enemy considers gains and victories still hinder the success of these efforts.”

According to the cabinet chief, the necessary contacts are continuing in order to reach a cease-fire for a specific period, with the aim of discussing the basic political steps.

In this case, the most important is the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and forcing the Israeli enemy to comply with it.
