Peruvian President Meets Nobel Laureate Pauchauri

Lima, October 17 (RHC-Andina) -- Peruvian President Ollanta Humala has met with Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, to discuss preparations for COP20 to be held in Peru in December.

The Minister of the Environment, Manuel Pulgar Vidal, was also present at the meeting at the Presidential Palace. The dialogue was centered on the topics that will be discussed during COP20.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) created the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 1988. It is a group open to all member states of the United Nations and the WMO.

The IPCC is the world’s foremost scientific organization on climate change and Dr. Pachauri is considered its leading scientific authority.

In 2007, Dr. Rajendra Pachauri received the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for its studies, reports and contributions on climate change.
