Caracas, November 19 (RHC)-- The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has endorsed the Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, after the approach of the Brazilian president Lula da Silva at the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit, which takes place in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

“I told (Venezuelan) Foreign Minister Yván Gil, to call the Brazilian Foreign Minister and tell him that Venezuela agrees with the President's approach.  And we are prepared, modestly, with our experience of the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP), of the School Feeding Program (PAE), of the food programs created since Comandante Chávez, to join the great alliance against hunger and poverty, called by President Lula Da Silva”, insisted Nicolás Maduro.

Likewise, the President emphasized that “these are fresh airs coming from Rio de Janeiro, with the words on the world geopolitical situation and I agree with every word in the inaugural speech”.

“We are prepared and I congratulate him,” stressed the head of state, while cataloguing the global meeting as a ”historic appointment.”  Maduro further qualified Lula Da Silva's words as “a historic piece.”  I agree with every word of President Lula's inaugural speech.

Insisting that Lula da Silva made “an extraordinary balance of the world sixteen years ago”, the Venezuelan head of state assessed on the questioning of the Brazilian leader at the G20: “How can there be more hunger, more poverty? How much is spent on war? How can there be more wars and threats?”

The Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty is an initiative that has been built over the course of a year, through dialogues between 82 countries, the African Union, the European Union, and other non-governmental entities and institutions.

The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, underscored the importance of the Alliance.  “As long as there are families without food on the table, children begging in the streets and young people without hope for a better future, there will be no peace. We know, from our own experience, that a series of well-designed public policies, such as income transfer programs like the 'Beca Familia', and nutritious school meals for children have the capacity to end the scourge of hunger and restore hope and dignity to the people,” said the Brazilian head of state.
