Tehran, November 29 (RHC)-- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says it is high time for Israel to accept defeat in Gaza after it was forced to plead for a ceasefire agreement with the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah.

In a post on his X account on Wednesday, Araghchi said Hezbollah once again shattered the myth of Israel's invincibility by forcing the regime to accept the ceasefire.

On Tuesday, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu finally accepted the deal, which is expected to end the regime’s months-long deadly escalation against Lebanon.  It came after a meeting of his “security cabinet” to discuss a proposal put forward by the United States and France.

In his post, the Iranian foreign minister said Netanyahu was forced to plead for a ceasefire after heavy casualties in southern Lebanon.  Over the past year, Araghchi added, the Israeli prime minister "milked US taxpayers of tens of billions of dollars to fund his war crimes" in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

Israel has been enjoying full U.S. military support and political cover for its criminal acts, he emphasized.

The top Iranian diplomat concluded by saying that in light of the regime's its failure to defeat Hezbollah, "it is high time for Israel to accept defeat in Gaza too.”

At least 44,282 Palestinians, mostly children and women, have been killed and 104,880 people wounded in the war that Israel began on October 7, 2023, following a retaliatory operation by the Palestinian territory’s resistance movements.

Hezbollah opened a support front for Palestinians in Gaza only a day after the Israeli regime unleashed its genocidal war against the besieged territory last October, launching numerous retaliatory attacks against Israeli targets in the occupied territories.

Following the truce announcement, the resistance movement warned it was fully ready to counter further potential Israeli aggression against Lebanon, while stressing the recent ceasefire deal that was reached between the regime and the movement was driven by its thousands-strong triumphant operations.
