Brasilia, December 2 (RHC)-- The Brazilian Army has opened an internal investigation into the 2022 coup plot against President Lula da Silva.
Images recorded the use of cars belonging to barracks in Goiânia by soldiers who were trying to put into practice the coup plan that included the assassination of Lula.
The investigation was initiated after a report from the Federal Police (PF) was released that revealed information about the use of these cars by people surrounding former President Jair Bolsonaro in the last months of 2022, the Army itself reported to the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo.
The PF identified a vehicle from the 1st Action Command Battalion that was circulating next to the car of one of the members of the group that worked with retired general Mário Fernandes in the plan to assassinate Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes.
It is a black Palio model car according to the images captured by cameras on the road that connects Goiânia with Brasilia. It was circulating next to the private vehicle of Rafael de Oliveira, allegedly involved in the plans to assassinate de Moraes.
The records are dated December 15, 2022, the day the attack on the Brazilian judge would have been planned according to police information, which announced that at 9 p.m. the plan would have been aborted and the vehicles returned to Goiânia in the early hours of December 16.
The Army reported in a statement: "An administrative procedure was initiated in order to verify compliance with the regulatory measures for the use of vehicles within the scope of this Military Organization."
According to the information provided to Folha, the investigation is being carried out by the Special Operations Command, which includes the so-called "kids pretos" (black children), an elite group of the Armed Forces among which are several of the possible defendants in the coup plot.
